Apple, like many others likely in an even worse place, has some tough choices to make. Its products, already among the most expensive on the market, will become even more costly if the company decides to pass on the cost of the tariffs to customers. Or Apple can eat that cost itself, at the expense of its profits. Either way, the outcome won’t be pretty.

The price of iPhones is watched especially closely. Some estimates suggest Apple may be forced to raise the price of its smartphones by as much as 90 per cent in the US. This has in turn raised concerns in China, even though devices assembled domestically are not subject to the country’s 125 per cent retaliatory tariffs.

Apple’s flagship store in Beijing has seen an increasing number of customer inquiries about potential price hikes. One supply chain expert said the current iPhone 16 series is unlikely to see a price increase in China, but the iPhone 17 series could cost more as part of a global price adjustment by Apple.

Of the so-called “Mag7” stocks, Apple saw the steepest decline, with an over 8% drop, due largely to its perceived reliance on China for manufacturing iPhones and other devices. Meta and Amazon also dropped around 7% each, Nvidia and Tesla are down 4%, and Alphabet slid around 4% in the chaos.

Market is going to be another bloodbath. There is no way to play this unless you have the stomach for short term volatility trades which I would only do with small dollars. Any investment assuming the world has changed could be undone in a year, two or three. Does somebody build a factory in the US? You can’t sell to the rest of the world economically and a change in trade policy wipes away your investment when competition goes back to Asia. Best option is to sit and wait probably. It is going to get worse with earnings. What a cluster fuck.
