this battery could render Tesla’s current technology obsolete. The SemiSolid Battery is the latest in a long line of battery technologies that promise to be less expensive and more efficient than the 4680. I don’t really mind if or how it will affect Tesla. All that I know is that these super cheap batteries will make EVs more affordable and widespread, which will be a significant help in our quest to reduce emissions. I'm currently in the market for a new car and the main reason I'm not looking at an EV is the technology is still evolving rapidly and we're on the cusp of a near-term revolution in battery tech compared to what we have today. As a result, any EV you buy today is likely to be essentially obsolete in 5 or so years. That means its trade-in value will crater, so you'd better like living with it as you'll be stuck with it for the long haul.
