I'm currently in the market for a new car and the main reason I'm not looking at an EV is the technology is still evolving rapidly and we're on the cusp of a near-term revolution in battery tech compared to what we have today. As a result, any EV you buy today is likely to be essentially obsolete in 5 or so years. That means its trade-in value will crater, so you'd better like living with it as you'll be stuck with it for the long haul.

this battery could render Tesla’s current technology obsolete. The SemiSolid Battery is the latest in a long line of battery technologies that promise to be less expensive and more efficient than the 4680. I don’t really mind if or how it will affect Tesla. All that I know is that these super cheap batteries will make EVs more affordable and widespread, which will be a significant help in our quest to reduce emissions. So either way, humanity and the planet win, thanks to 24M.
