I agree that Shopify needs to invest to get SFN closer to FBA service level, though I am not bullish on Shopify’s ability to operate 1st party warehouses. Logistics is a totally different beast from software development, and I think they sorely need a reliable 3PL to build a white labeled SFN. Shopify Payments is white labeled Stripe after all.

The urgency is real as Amazon’s strategy to compete with Shopify becomes more clear. The Information posted last week about debates within Shopify on whether or not to integrate a “Buy with Prime” plugin for Shopify merchants. Amazon is bundling prime users and FBA logistics with Amazon payment processing. This puts big pressure on Shopify by offering a huge carrot to Shopify merchants while cutting out Shopify Payments. 

Great analysis on Shop Ads - I’m convinced they have a big opportunity there if they do invest in becoming a more active player. It’s much more believable that they can pull off this solution 1st party IMO
