👏💪 Google-backed growth stage venture firm CapitalG promoted Laela Sturdy to the managing partner role.
- Sturdy's appointment to the top job marks an important moment in the venture industry, making her "one of the only women to lead a major venture firm," 
- Alphabet is the sole backer of the firm, having deployed $4B through CapitalG to date. 
- The firm takes a methodical approach to investing, making only 55 investments over a decade, most notably Airbnb, Lyft, and Stripe. 
- Sturdy led CapitalG's $60M investment into payroll startup Gusto at a valuation of $560M in 2015 and a $45M funding round into language learning platform Duolingo at a then $470M valuation. 
- Sturdy has been with CapitalG since its early days, joining months after its founding in 2013.
